Overview:

I was invited on Upwork to bid on a job to fix the grammar from a Portuguese to English translation.

Challenge:

The brochure wasn’t going to be effective as written.

Recommendations:

While I have attached a bid, I have some questions. Your answers will help me ensure my work delivers the full benefits of your investment.

  • What do you need this brochure to accomplish? What is its purpose?
  • Who is your customer? Who will you be giving this brochure to?
  • When in the buying cycle will you be giving your prospects this brochure?

The reason I ask these questions is this. When you target your marketing materials for specific customers and specific decision points, you get a higher return on your investment. The brochure pays for itself.

I see you have four main areas you emphasize on your website. Consider this. Domestic Moves and Corporate Relocation are services that serve significantly different audiences. Both these audiences may be interested in international moves and white glove delivery. However, you still need separate brochures to market effectively. Here’s why.

The decision-maker for the domestic move is usually one person or a couple. Thus, concerns are pretty simple to cover. Complicating factors, such as, “What will my boss do if I’ve made a bad choice,” don’t come into the equation.

In contrast, consider a corporate relocation. There may be multiple decision-makers involved. Job security may be on the line. Thus your brochure must include different content to attract corporate clients. As I reviewed the current content, I found it is closer to marketing to corporations. Yet your message lacks the elements that would ‘sell’ your business to this market. The content sells ‘features’ without making the benefits of those features clear.

SUMMARY OF RESULTS

The original brochure was the handout at the 2017 International Association of Mover’s convention. Confiança Moving would have brought far more potential customers into their sales funnel if the brochure had focused on their services for other moving companies. This was the audience. Next year, they will be positioned to market themselves to the largest audience at the event—other exhibitors.

 

Of course, they should also have the other two brochures on hand. Attendees from the press corp could be reached by the B2C brochure, and corporate attendees could be reached with the B2B brochure for corporations.

Buffalo Wings & Rings (BW&R) Brochure

Design and Content

This brochure was created as a lead nurturing piece for use at franchise trade shows. The audience is business owners seeking an investment opportunity in the restaurant industry.

Design

  • BW&R gave me their design specifications and most of the graphic elements.
  • They gave me the title.
  • I designed the layout to match specs.
  • I choose the simplicity of one of their signature dishes for the front to keep the message central. I didn’t want a cluttered look.
  • I chose the restaurant pictures for the back to complement the franchise owner’s story and to develop brand recognition.

Content

The material I was given to work with was already good. I edited it to strengthen the message and increase clarity.

  • Front page highlights what makes BW&R different from other Sports Bars.
  • Back page includes a short overview of who BW&R is.
  • Back page also uses a mini case study to whet investor’s appetites.
